Hello Dear Readers!
I’m sorry to say I’ve been in a bit of a slump and haven’t been up for doing a lot in terms of writing blog posts or social media or any of that. The world just feels really heavy right now… Maybe you’re feeling it too?
Before we get into anything else, I want to take a moment to say: Make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Go outside, get some sunshine and some fresh air. Pet a dog. Hug a loved one. Drink some water. Go to bed on time. Take a bath or a shower. Eat a vegetable. (Sometimes if I haven’t been eating well my body screams at it to feed it something green instead of just meat and rice. 😅 Anyone else ever experience this? No? Just me?)
I transitioned into a new role at work last year and have been working at break-neck pace to try to get some programs up and running. I’m mentally wiped out at the end of the day, but I’ve been inching along ever so slowly on my writing and reading goals. Sooooo….. sloooooooowly…. 😭
I had really lofty ambitious at the start of the year, and so far I have made minimal progress on them. Some years are like that. Even though I’m feeling really down and out about a lot of things right now, I want to take this time to refresh your memory about success amnesia. I’ve talked about it before pretty extensively (In my Success Amnesia post) but I think it’s worth revisiting.
Me and science got together and made this sweet illustration.
It is this small close up here that I would like to bring your attention to:
If you are “doing the thing” which is to say working on your craft, or something you love, then you are doing great. It is so easy to forget everything you’ve accomplished, everything you’ve worked so hard on, all the ways that you’ve grown and all the new skills that you’ve learned. When you are staring at the proverbial summit of the mountain, a lot of us forget to look back and see just how far we’ve climbed and only focus on how far we have to go.
Stop. Take a moment. Celebrate something you’ve accomplished last/this week. I’ll wait. 😊
There is a lot in the world that doesn’t feel very good right now, and it’s so easy to get bogged down with Doomscrolling and the news and social media and politics and war. And I’m not saying we shouldn’t pay attention to those things at all. But it can be really healthy to limit your exposure to viewing and talking about those subjects.
I have to just remind myself sometimes, that even if I only get 50 words written, it’s still better than zero words. Similarly, even if you just took yourself for a walk today. Or ate something nutritious. Or choose not to spend that last hour before bed mindlessly scrolling through social media, those are all GREAT victories and you should be proud of yourself.
Take time to celebrate your wins. Even if you don’t feel like it. My husband is constantly reminding me that Struggling is Not Failing. He’s right. I will happily admit it. But I will save that idea for it’s own post.
I don’t want to belabor the point. I mostly just popped on to say that you’re doing great. I see you out there, pushing yourself, working hard, doing your best. And you’re doing great. Even if you don’t feel like it. You are wonderful and amazing and the world is better with you in it.
Sending you all my positive vibes. I would love to hear in the comments something you are proud of yourself for this week. Till next time dear reader, take care of yourself and stay safe out there.
