Stoneswine and Pebblepig - take 2

Hello Dear Readers!

I’m hard at work editing my newest novella “Of Dwarves and Dragons”, trying to get it wrapped up. Sometimes these things just take more time than I’d like. I’m on the final edit before I hand things over to a proof editor and then I can start on layout.

In the mean time I’ve commissioned some cool artwork from the very talented Mikel Rekondo to go inside the book. Dustin wrote a series of blog posts a while back about different animals of Galhadria and one of them featured the stoneswine and the pebblepig, which are both critters who live underground with the dwarves. I really wanted some artwork of these guys and so Mikel did an AMAZING job bringing these creatures to life.

Behold! The Stoneswine!

A fantasy creature that is a mix between a pangolin and a wild boar. Art by Mikel Renkondo.

Stoneswine are a mix between a pangolin and giant wild boar. They are about the size of a donkey or small pony and strong as an ox. Since they live underground and like to dig, they are naturally suited to living in the dark tunnels. It was a bit of a no-brainer for dwarves to domesticate them. They are used to pull carts or as pack animals for hauling goods or materials.

Next up we have the pebblepig. These little guys are kind of a combination between an armadillo and a gerbil. So, instead of rats or mice, dwarves have to deal with little pebblepigs. They’re quite small, and could fit in the palm of your hand easily. Just like mice they like to chew on things and generally get into places they aren’t supposed to and are a bit of a nuisance.

However.

They are freaking adorable.
I’m going to show you one.
And you’re going to want one.
So proceed with caution.

I warned you. They’re super cute. I just love them!!!

So there you have it. Two fantasy creatures brough to life by the amazing and talented Mikel Renkondo.

What fantasy creatures have you created for your worlds, or what was your favorite that you read about in a book? I’d love to know!

Till next time dear readers, watch out for these adorable yet armored subterranean critters. <3 Tiff
